R&B superstar Alicia Keys will be appearing at the Turning Stone Casino & Resort Event Center on Thursday, March 11, as part of her Freedom Tour, which kicked off on Wednesday in Chicago.

The tour follows the release of her fourth studio album, The Element of Freedom, released in the fall of 2009. The pure power and emotion in Keys' voice, which has been present since she broke onto the scene in 2001, is at an all-time best on her latest album.

The Element of Freedom represents a truly matured Keys, who at 29-years-old has long been pegged the modern day, female Stevie Wonder thanks to her incredible piano skills and unique vocal range. The album begins with a 12-second introduction in which Keys states:

"And the day came when the risk it took to remain tightly closed in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to bloom. This is the element of freedom."

This breaking out of sorts is truly an accurate summary of the personality Keys portrays on the new album. She finds a way to balance her individuality through songs like "Doesn't Mean Anything," which features an inspirational and symbolic music video that depicts Keys climbing mountains and overcoming loneliness to find herself.

She also delves into her more emotional side with the up-beat love song, "Un-Thinkable," and a slower, softer track titled "Distance and Time," in which she states that no matter what it takes, "I'll be waiting."

All of this builds up to The Freedom Tour, which will make its first domestic stop in the Northeast at the Turning Stone in Verona on March 11. Fans can expect to hear some of these songs as well as classics from her three other albums, Songs in A Minor, The Diary of Alicia Keys and As I Am.

Songs from those earlier works include classics such as "Fallin,'" "If I Ain't Got You," and "Like You'll Never See Me Again." Plans for the tour include extensive special effects and lighting as well as a stage that grows larger as the performance progresses.

Keys' appearance at Turning Stone comes just in time for Utica College students to catch a glimpse of the superstar. March 11 is the evening before the final day of classes before spring break.

After Turning Stone, Keys will stay in the Tri-State area with the following tour dates:

• March 13 & 14 - The MGM Grand at Foxwoods, Mashantucket, CT
• March 17 - Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
• March 19 - Prudential Center, Newark, NJ
• March 20 - Mark Etess Arena, Atlantic City, NJ

Tickets for the March 11 show at the Turning Stone can be purchased at the Turning Stone Box Office by calling 315-361-7469 or at tickemaster.com. Ticket levels are $75, $90 and $100.
