The Utica College Women's Ice Hockey team walked off the ice Sunday afternoon after losing two games against, nationally ranked no. 5 RIT. The Pioneers ended the weekend with a record of 9-10-2, as senior goalie Jill Doherty finished with 30 saves recorded on Saturday and 44 saves on Sunday.

After allowing two late goals in the third period, UC lost against RIT 5-3. Junior Tiffany Bichrest attained two goals and one assist. "It was nice to get on the board to score late in the first period to have some momentum to get going in the second period," said Bichrest.

Megan Kobar scored the first goal for RIT at 8:56 in the first period. Danielle Read and Melissa Hall assisted the goal. The second goal didn't fall far after when at 12:19 Kayla Ross received a pass from Jamie Parhar in the first period. The Pioneers were not going to allow the first period to come to a close without any goals when Darcy Hier and Lynny Gonzales pair up to set up Bichrest with a goal.

Bichrest continued the momentum for the Pioneers by scoring her second goal of the game at the beginning of the second period. At 17:49, R.I.T. took advantage of U.C. being a man down and Katie Stack scored on a power play off assists from Danielle Read and Sarah Dagg. In the third period Lynny Gonzales tied up the game for Utica College striking the puck at the back of the net. The Tigers ended the game strong with two more goals by Katie Stack at 8:38 and 13:34 with assists by Shireen Irani and Kayla Ross.

The back-to-back game Sunday was a shut out for UC ending 4-0 with Jillian Doherty having 44 saves. The Pioneers held strong in the first two periods ending scoreless in both but throwing in the sticks in the third period allowing RIT four straight goals.

RIT recorded the first goal of the game 1:41 into the third period when Belina Hooper scored the game-winning goal off assists from Sarah Dagg and Teneica Hiller. Katie Stack scored the second goal at 7:53 with passes by Kim Schlattman and Kylie Mazzetta to bring the Tigers up by 2. Hooper made a point on the scoreboard by scoring her second goal of the game giving RIT a comfortable lead by 3. The final goal to end the game 4-0 was by Traci Gaibraith at 18:04.

"We knew going into the game that RIT was going to be a good team, there was no doubt in my mind that we could compete with them, they just got a few more lucky breaks than we did," said Jillian Doherty after the rough weekend.

RIT sits tight at third place in the ECAC Women's West Conference and the Pioneers fall to 9-10-2 on the season looking to break the losing streak against Oswego State at Campus Center Hockey Arena at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
