"The purpose of holding these annual events is to keep [up with] tradition and to always educate the campus about Black History and African American culture in general, not just for the month of February," Jeanty said.

Other organizations on campus will be paying homage to their African ancestors various ways as well.

Women In A New Direction, WIND, will be having a presentation, "Distinguished Women from the Past and Present," that will showcase pioneering women from the African-American community on Feb. 17. WIND will soon have posters around campus with quotes from inspirational black women. Jamilia Cain, president of WIND, hopes to have the campus better understand the history of black women.

BOND is planning to have "dual-honor days," where they intend to honor two important black figures. The dates for the "dual-honor days" have not yet been set.

On Saturday, Open Moments and UC's gospel choir will be performing at a Black History Month Celebration at Mohawk Valley Community College.

This sounds like a great program and a great way to improve education in our schools!
