Dining Hall Changes Leave Students Confused

UC students have been sharing both their positive and negative thoughts about the new changes in the cafeteria. Some students do not mind, while others seem to really dislike the alterations. Student opinions have been voiced on the cards for the bulletin board near the entrance of the dinging hall.
The cafeteria staff decided to take away some things but they have added new variety to the food selection as well. General Manager, Jeff Weissinger, and the rest of the staff, have made changes such as taking away the "wrap station," and adding a gluten-free food station in its place, as well as eliminating the option of grilled chicken everyday.
"I don't have a problem with the new 'gluten free' station, but why take away the wraps?" said Lauren Gilmore, freshman. "I don't want to make my own wrap." Gilmore's complaint was a common among students.
Tammy George, a dinging hall employee, knew of all the changes that took place, and hoped the students liked them.
"We felt that most kids were coming in every day thinking 'same stuff, different day' and we wanted to change that." George said.
The cafeteria management has decided to serve grilled chicken only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They have also started using a new brand of chicken breasts and patties, and french fries.
There will be a "special" for either lunch or dinner at the pizza station's old station, at least 2 to 3 days a week. Currently, the station is offering pasta with a variety of sauces, seafood, and parfaits, all of which are made to order.
"This at least brings some variety to the students," George said.
Emely Zelaya, senior, is glad that she can now make her own wraps.
"I never liked waiting on the line or other people touching my sandwich," she said. "When I was a freshman I had to make my own wraps, so this isn't new for me.
Still, all the changes may take some getting used to. For freshman Damon Casey, the variation in the dinging hall is a bit unsettling. "This is terrible. I can't get my grilled chicken and I'm distraught," he said.
George has expressed that if students want their wraps toasted and rolled for them, she will gladly do it. All they have to do is bring her the food and everything they want in it, and she will make it for them.
"I know kids don't want to do it themselves and I really don't mind," she said. "What matters is they're satisfied with the new options while still getting what they want."
