The Office of Career Services will host Backpack to Briefcase, a five part series of one-hour seminars on Wednesdays at 1pm in the Willard Conference Room in DePerno Hall.
The workshops will cover a variety of components, ranging from resumes and cover letters to internships and employment. Backpack to Briefcase was designed to allow students to enter the job search process with confidence, according to Stephen Cantine, director of Career Services,
The first seminar will take place on Feb. 10 and will cover the basics of resumes and cover letters. The secrets and strategies for finding great jobs will be revealed on Feb.17, and on Feb. 24, the interviewing process will be discussed as well as hints and tips that allow interviewees to stand out.
The nerve wrecking process of transitioning from college students to career oriented adults will be discussed on the March 3, along with the characteristics of a professional and explanations of professionalism.
A prospective employer will conduct the final one-hour seminar on March 10. He will discuss what employers look for, as well as the qualities they expect from potential employees.
The purpose of this series is to "focus on development and preparation for success," according to Cantine.
This series is expected to be educational and beneficial to all who attend. All classes are welcomed and no registration is required. As an incentive for students who attend all five sessions, Career Services will give a certificate of completion, a pad-folio, a business card case, business cards, resume paper and envelopes.
Students who are interested can visit the Office of Career Services located in Room 206, Strebel Student Center. For more information call 315-792-3087 or email careerservices@utica.edu.
