Utica College men's hockey dropped two home games against Elmira and Hobart College, losing to Hobart 6-4 and Elmira 8-1. What started out as an extremely promising night for the Pioneers, controlling and beating Hobart the first 2 periods, ended unfortunately because they could not close.

Utica was leading 4-2 into the final period. However ECAC Men's West Conference rival Hobart College found a way to score four goals in the third period pulling a major upset. Sophomore Tim Coffman scored two goals for UC, and senior Matt Fitzgibbons tallied two assists. Junior Sean Timkey scored his first goal of the season tying up the game at four. Hobart leading scorer Matthew Wallace scored the first and last goals for the team, with help from Bobby Cahill, who scored the game-winner in the third period and had an assist on the night.

Hobart came out flying in the beginning of the second period scoring a goal just 2 minutes in. Utica fought back scoring two goals in the second. Senior forward Jeff Pappalardi scored with under three minutes left in the second period to increase their lead by two.

Unfortunately, the third was completely controlled by the Statesmen, scoring 4 unanswered goals for the victory. Outshooting UC 17-5, Hobart's Greg Ciciola, Aleksey Koval, Bobby Cahill and Matthew Wallace all scored third-period goals. Utica goalie Anthony Luckow had an impressive 33 saves.

However, it was not enough to stop the Statesmen.

"Sometimes things just don't go your way," Luckow said. "We played great for two periods, but Hobart played better for the one that mattered. We have a real chance to beat a good Elmira team tomorrow. That's the only thing on my mind now."

Utica strapped it up again the following night to take on nationally ranked Elmira College. Elmira is currently ranked 6th in the nation, and certainly played like it defeating Utica 8-1. Rick Acorn, who netted two goals and tallied two assists, led the Soaring Eagles.
