Make Your Greek Movement - We Made Ours, Now Make Yours

Issue date: 10/16/09 Section: Opinion
Hello everybody. This is Minh Ngo, and "The Greek Life," is a brand new column dedicated to the Greek community at Utica College.
As a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, I personally feel as though Greeks have not been given enough credit for their contributions. Therefore, being offered an opportunity to write about UC Greeks was definitely a particular gusto for me.
Fraternities and sororities are usually the most active organizations on any campus. The Greek life has become a vital component of colleges across the country. Joining any Greek organization is about the courage to take that extra step to better oneself.
If you want to be a diligent and an enterprising student, an outstanding individual in the community, or a part of something bigger than yourself, please consider Greeks. We will assist you in reaching your fullest social potentials. Greeks are not your average clubs on campus. They have been a way of life for several decades.
At the moment, Utica College consists of nine active Greek organizations. For fraternities, we have Tau Kappa Epsilon, Alpha Phi Delta, Phi Iota Alpha and Lambda Sigma Upsilon.
Sororities are somewhat bigger both in numbers and members. Utica College has Phi Sigma Sigma, Theta Phi Alpha, Chi Beta Sigma, Gamma Sigma Sigma, Omega Phi Beta and Chi Upsilon Sigma.
Each organization has its own agenda and objectives in selecting and inducting new members. If you are interested in any of the listed Greeks, you can ask the people with the Greek letters on their chest. Even though rushing is over, you still have a chance to pledge.
You should start talking to the brothers and sisters, find out what they stand for, what they value, what they believe in, and what benefits you out of the initiation process.
If we sound appealing to you, let us know because if you are eligible for pledging, we will make it happen for you because we want you to walk beside us and be our brothers and sisters.
