The annual Latin American Student Union (LASU) Talent Show this Saturday promises to be a "Night in Hollywood" at Utica College.

LASU is no stranger to active involvement on campus and is a student organization that rings bells to many students who have participated in this semester's past events such as Poetry and Karaoke Night, LASU Banquet, Stereotype Forum, and Cultural Jeopardy. This will be new students' first LASU Talent Show and they are guaranteed to have something new and exciting to look forward to.

"It will be a great experience; you will see performances from other UC students and people from other schools," said Ana Gonzalez, vice president of LASU.

LASU's mission is to promote Latin American awareness on campus and in the Utica community through various events socially, politically, and culturally. The group aims to break down cultural stereotypes, raise a greater sense of awareness about the Latin culture and maintain healthy relationships with the community.

Among the college organizations, students from African In Motion (AIM), Gospel Choir and Prestige will be offering creative performances. LASU is engaging its audience even more by having international students and rock music performed. Herkimer College students and Syracuse University students have been invited to participate. "We are excited to bring more unity between the college organizations and community to showcase the unique talents of different groups and individuals," Gonzalez said.

The LASU talent show theme is a Night in Hollywood where every act has a chance to be a star. There are several new spins to the talent show this year. Fifteen acts will be performing and the show is expected to draw a successful turnout like it has in its previous years. LASU members will be performing and hosting the show, which is rare because past shows have been hosted by UC alumni. The three judges are Tyleah Castillo, the Academic Coaching Expert and LASU Advisor, Darnell Thompson, Boehlert Hall Resident Director and Catelyn Hartwig, senior and Phi Sigma Sigma Sister.

LASU encourages all students planning to attend to arrive early and come enjoy the Talent Show from 7-9:30 p.m., in Strebel Auditorium to experience an enchanting "Night in Hollywood."
