"This was a huge win for us," head coach Tara Christenson said. "It was so important for us to not only win this game, but score some goals, and that is exactly what we did. It was a total team effort."
Freshman Tiffany Bichrest opened the scoring for the Pioneers just 2:57 into the game. Bichrest's goal was then followed by three from senior Laurie Calvasina and freshman Kim Martin.
"We've been working on transitioning as a team, and we definitely implemented what we learned in the past week," Christenson added. "I like seeing a bunch of people score. We had three different people score and four different people assist. We loved it."
Elizabeth Knudsen, Katie Kutas, Lindsey Jester, and Calvasina each contributed an assist for the Pioneers.
"We needed this game," assistant coach Laura Glaza said. "In the past five games we've seen everything - we've been up, we've been down, and we've played overtime. I think we're ready for the rest of the season."
"It's so tough for a team to lose five, but I think our game last weekend versus Steven's Institute of Technology was the final hurdle for us," Christenson said. "At any point the girls could have thrown in the towel, but they chose to stick it out. It's a good sign when your team keeps their heads up."
The Pioneers continue conference play next Saturday when they play Elmira.
"We are ready for the next eight games and conference play," Christenson said. The Pioneers record is now 3-6.
