Funding for the $700,000 project came from several different sources. An earmark in the federal budget for $300,000 will provide the lion's share of the funding. Former congressman Sherwood Boehlert marshaled that through the last Congress. However, Congress convened without approving final appropriations last year, so it is unclear if the earmark will remain in the final budget. Meanwhile, UC has allocated other funds to begin the project. Money was shifted from existing grants while awaiting the federal money. Additional funds were provided by UC alumni and fundraising efforts.

UC sophomore Emily Kaufman didn't know about the new studio, but thinks it's a great addition to the campus. "I live on campus and I would probably watch the programming if I had the time," she said.

Professor Chanatry hopes that the studio will eventually expand, adding more downlink capabilities. "I think this facility can really put us on the map," he said.
